"Kumba Was Here" is a site specific installation created for Inscape, Seattle's former INS building. The building, where I now have my art studio, is transitioning from being a federally operated detention center to a community arts building that will house over 125 artists. The piece is inspired by the graffiti that was written by the detainees on the walls of the exercise yards with softened tar. The graffiti reflects the author's national origin or name and many different languages are represented.
